Discover the Underwater Magic of Tulamben
If you're a diving enthusiast or simply someone looking for an unforgettable underwater adventure, Tulamben should be at the top of your list. Located on the northeastern coast of Bali, this small fishing village has grown into one of the island’s most famous dive destinations — and for good reason.
Dive into History: The USAT Liberty Wreck
The crown jewel of Tulamben is the USAT Liberty wreck. This World War II cargo ship was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942 and now lies just a few meters off the shore, creating an incredible artificial reef. The wreck is easily accessible — you can literally walk in from the beach and start your dive! Covered with vibrant corals and home to countless species of fish, it's perfect for beginners and experienced divers alike.
A Colorful Underwater World
Beyond the famous wreck, Tulamben offers other stunning dive sites. Coral Garden and Drop-Off boast crystal-clear waters, colorful coral reefs, and exotic marine life like reef sharks, bumphead parrotfish, sea turtles, and the elusive mimic octopus. Whether you prefer macro photography or wide-angle shots, Tulamben’s biodiversity will keep your eyes wide open and your camera busy.
Easy and Relaxed Diving
One of the best things about Tulamben is how easy and relaxed the diving is. Most sites are shore dives, meaning you don’t need a boat to reach them. The water is usually calm with excellent visibility year-round, making it ideal for those new to diving or those who just want a peaceful underwater experience.
When to Visit
Tulamben is a year-round diving destination, but the best conditions are from April to November during the dry season. Even during the rainy season, diving is still great thanks to the sheltered location.
More Than Just Diving
While diving is the highlight, Tulamben also offers a peaceful escape from Bali’s busier tourist spots. Enjoy the quiet beaches, stunning sunrises over Mount Agung, and the warm hospitality of the local people.
